Clinical Significance of Basal Cell Layer Antibodies

Abstract
• Circulating antibodies in humans were found to antigens present only in the basal cell layer of stratified squamous epidermis by the immunofluorescence technique. Such antibodies were uncommon, being present in only 38 (1.5%) of 2,500 sera. They usually occurred in the presence of immune disorders involving the skin, although they were not associated with a particular disease. (Arch Dermatol 113:1380-1382, 1977)
