Heat Capacity of RbMnF3near the Antiferromagnetic Transition Temperature

Abstract
Precision measurements of the heat capacity Cp of the isotropic Heisenberg system RbMnF3 near the antiferromagnetic transition temperature Tc=83.08 K are reported. The measurements are for 76T88 K. The results are in every respect consistent with predictions based upon recent theories of critical phenomena. They imply that Cp is finite and continuous at Tc. Under certain assumptions about the functional form of Cp, the critical exponents α=α=0.14±0.01 and the amplitude ratio AA=1.40±0.04 are obtained. These parameters are believed to be characteristic of systems with short-range interactions and three degrees of freedom in the order parameter. A comparison with thermal-expansion measurements yields dPdTc=1.69×103 bar K1 and dSdTc=0.51 J mole1 K2.
