Abstract
AMPHENONE1 (1,2-bis [p-aminophenyl]-2-methyl propanone-1-dihydrochloride)∥ affects both thyroid and adrenocortical activity in animals and man.4 5 6 7 8 9 The adrenal effect is reflected in reduction of plasma hydrocortisone and corticosterone concentrations and in reduced urinary excretion of their metabolites. Studies by Peterson, Hertz and Lubs10 indicate that amphenone acts through inhibition of adrenocortical-hormone synthesis. Renold et al.11 reported that amphenone administration resulted in decreased levels of urinary aldosterone and definite sodium diuresis in a majority of 17 patients. Depressed sodium excretion in sweat, saliva and feces,12 , 13 as well as in urine of patients with hepatic cirrhosis and ascites, who also are known to excrete . . .Keywords
