Abstract
Hypertension is a major cause of cardiovascular disease in the United States and an important contributor to morbidity and mortality. Men in the general population have higher diastolic blood pressures than women at all ages and also have a higher prevalence of hypertension overall. Although men have a higher incidence of total cardiovascular end points at all ages, hypertensive men and women develop strokes, left ventricular hypertrophy, and renal dysfunction at similar rates. Hypertension is particularly important in women because it is a modifiable risk factor that is extremely prevalent in older women (1).Keywords
