Detection of core-gas ions from 3He-filled pellets in laser-driven fusion studies

Abstract

³He²⁺ ions from laser‐irradiated ³He‐filled glass microsphere targets were mass spectroscopically observed only at low velocities consistent with the predictions of hydrodynamic calculations. The null measurements at high velocity indicate that the core gas is largely contained.
