Polarisation-holding directional coupler made from elliptically cored fibre having a D section

Abstract

A polarisation-holding directional coupler has been made using single-mode fibre having an elliptical core. An isolation of 21 dB between polarisation has been achieved together with an estimated insertion loss < 0.2 dB.
