Abstract
The pathological changes present in the central nervous system in 3 cases of hypertrophic degeneration of the inferior olives are reported. The reasons for this type of olivary degeneration are discussed on the basis of liiese personal observations and of similar cases reported in the previous medical literature. These olivary changes can not be explained as being secondary to lesions involving any specific group of neurons or nerve fibers. It is considered more likely that the hypertrophic degeneration of the olives is caused by local metabolic abnormalities. The olivary glial cells may be the 1st to be affected by such abnormalities. This publication has 21 references indexed in Scilit:
