Abstract
Histological examination of surgical prostatic specimens revealed a small number of unexpected carcinomas, together with a condition, described as marked atypia, which closely resembled carcinoma but which lacked certain criteria of malignancy, primarily tissue invasion. Evidence that patients with this condition have an almost normal life expectancy is presented. The most likely explanation is that it is a premalignant phase similar to carcinoma in situ with a long latent period before it becomes invasive. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
