Abstract
The diffusion of iron in aluminium has been recently investigated using ion-implantation and tracer-sectioning method. It has been contended that due to the probable presence of an oxide layer on an aluminium surface, measurements of solute diffusion data by conventional plating and sectioning method give rise to ‘anomalous’ results. The present note reports on the diffusion of 59Fe isotope in polycrystalline specimens of low dislocation density. The results show that conventional electroplating techniques are no bar to obtaining true or nearly true lattice diffusion data. Keywords
