Abstract
ACTH activity disappears rapidly from neutral aqueous, 0.9% NaCl, or basic extracts of pituitary. Activity is stable in weak hydrochloric acid extracts of the gland. ACTH prepared by the acid-acetone technic or a modification of same is unstable in water; Na phosphate and NaCl exert a stabilizing influence on biological activity. Purified ACTH is stable in weak HC1 soln. Under the exptl. conditions employed the authors were unable to confirm the claim of Li that ACTH is "activated" by heating in weak HCl soln. Keywords
