Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 39-year-old man, a resident of Guatemala, was admitted to the hospital because of a question of bacterial endocarditis.He was well until five and a half weeks previously, when symptoms of an upper-respiratory-tract infection developed. A physician prescribed isoprinosine. Four days later a scarlatiniform rash appeared, and the temperature rose to 39.9°C. A throat culture yielded a growth of "hemolytic streptococcus" and Staphylococcus aureus. Erythromycin was begun, with improvement in the rash and fever.
