Preparation of Copper(I)–Phosphine Complexes Having Cu–N Bonds and Their Reactions with Organic Halides

Abstract
Reactions of a methylcopper complex CH3Cu(PPh3)2(diethyl ether)0.5 (PPh3=triphenylphosphine) with active N–H compounds HNR1R2 give the corresponding copper derivatives formulated as R1R2NCu(PPh3)n (n=2 for R1R2N=phthalimido, succinimido, N-phenylacetamido (4), acrylamido, phenylamido, and 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidinyl; n=1 for R1R2N=acetamido). The IR and NMR spectroscopic data of the complexes support the bonding of the R1R2N group to Cu through nitrogen. The reactions of the Cu(I)–N complexes with alkyl and aryl halides (RX) afford the corresponding N-substituted compounds RNR1R2 in high yields.
