Abstract
It has hitherto been generally accepted that the neurologic complications of diabetes mellitus follow a prolonged period of poor diabetic control. Documented case reports presented in this paper indicated that this need not be so; in fact, in these cases, diabetic neuropathy appeared as the initial clinical manifestation of diabetes mellitus unattended by any symptoms of hyperglycemia and glycosuria. The diagnosis of diabetes mellitus was suspected on the basis of the clinical picture, spinal fluid findings, and family history. It was confirmed by performing the necessary laboratory investigations.
