Abstract
This correspondence considers the problem of modeling linear time-invariant systems by linear systems of low order. A new method is proposed here based on the quadratic criterion which evaluates an equation error, not an output error. The minimization of an equation error leads to a linear problem whereas the output error leads to a nonlinear problem. Keywords
