Abstract
This paper examines the possibilities of designing large, integral-horsepower hysteresis motors to have efficiency and power factor comparable with that of induction motors. Scaling techniques are used, together with a previously published analytical method, to scale up an existing laboratory hysteresis motor of 3 kW rating. The resulting design for a 200 kW hysteresis motor is predicted to have an efficiency in excess of 90% and a power factor in excess of 70%.Keywords
