Abstract
These data from a European population show heterogeneous patterns in time trends of the incidence of various histologic types of lung carcinoma. The specific roles of smoking cessation and switching to low‐tar, filtered cigarettes in the decrease of squamous cell carcinoma incidence in males and the increase of adenocarcinoma incidence in both genders are discussed. Keywords
