Seismic Analysis of Earth Dam-Reservoir Systems

Abstract
Soils are complex materials consisting in general of a granular solid skeleton saturated with water or a mixture of air and water. These characteristics have often been ignored and soils have been treated as equivalent homogeneous solids in many studies of the dynamic response of earth structures (4). In doing so, some of the effects of the pore water on the mechanical response of the soils are neglected.
