Abstract
Diagnostic systems based on the injection of particle beams into hot, dense plasmas are shown to be directly sensitive to confining magnetic fields. In particular, the component of the magnetic vector potential in the direction of an ignorable coordinate of the field geometry can be determined by measuring the velocity of beam particles that undergo ionizing collisions in the plasma. Keywords
