Abstract
The gerrhonotine lizards are defined as "Recent Anguidae with a lateral fold and four well-developed limbs." Five genera are recognized: COLOPTYCHON, based on C. rhombifer (Gerrhonotus r. Peters), from Panama; Abronia Gray, with 10 forms. Guatemala northward to Hidalgo and Guerrero; Gerrhonotus Wiegmann, with 5 forms, Chiapas to Texas; Elgaria Gray, with 13 forms, Chihuahua and Baja California to British Columbia; Barisia Gray, with 15 forms, Panama to n. Mexico. These genera are redefined. The center of dispersal of the group has been the Mexican plateau; major modifications have occurred primarily at this center, peripheral forms retaining a larger number of primitive characteristics. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
