Abstract
SUMMARY: The absence of gas produced by certain coliform organisms during growth at elevated temperatures is not a result of an interference with the enzymes concerned, but rather an interference with the mechanism which brings about the appearance of these adaptive enzymes. A reconsideration of some of the evidence tends to support the view that formic hydrogenlyase is a separate entity, distinct from hydrogenase and formic dehydrogenase. Keywords
