Abstract
The objective of this study is to enlarge the range of the amount of shear reinforcement where the high tensile strength could be effectively utilized, when the deformed PC steel bar is used as shear reinforcement of RC beams. In this study, the eighteen specimens were tested, whose parameters were the amount of shear reinforcement and the concrete strength. All the specimens had the high tension shear reinforcement of deformed PC steel bar. As the results, it was proved that the shear failure pattern was classified into two cases. One was the case that the shear reinforcement showed its full strength and it yielded at shear failure. The other was the case that the shear compression failure of concrete went ahead of yielding of shear reinforcement. The range of the amount of shear reinforcement in the former case expanded according to the increase of concrete strength. A simple truss model was proposed in order to explain the experimental results. The experimental results were well followed in tendency. The shear failure mechanism would be analytically cleared by considering the compatibility of deformation as well as the equilibrium of forces in the analytical model. Keywords
