Abstract
This spotlight issue on apoptosis in the cardiovascular system appears at a point in time at which enough solid evidence has emerged to convince the most critical investigator of the prevalence of the phenomenon in most of the important cardiac and vascular diseases. The aim of this issue is, first, to give the cardiovascular investigator an introduction and overview with reference to the vast literature dealing with myocardial and vascular apoptosis and, second, to include a number of highly qualified original papers on this topic.Keywords
