Abstract
Tests are described which were undertaken to determine the conductance between UO/sub 2/ and Zircaloy-2. The tests were conducted in an argon atmosphere in the CVTR to obtain data on conductance modes, and the effects of contact pressure and surface finish on these modes. The conductance through a gas gap was found to be inversely proportional to the gap width, while the contact conductance is inversely proportional to the square root of the surface profiles wavelength products.
