Abstract
23 first-graders ranked themselves sociometrically and judged each other's performance on an unstructured task. These 6-yr.-olds formed heterosexual groups and, contrary to other evidence, male-dominance socialization was operative at that age level. Ss' group and individual performance scores and their sociometric and group performance scores were significantly correlated, showing that status differentials were not spurious and that perceived competence was shared individually and collectivelyKeywords
