Gastric blood flow and temperature after histamine in dogs

Abstract
One of the possible factors in the vascular reaction to histamine may be the change in blood flow. Purpose of this study was to measure the blood flow of stomach in dogs, following the injection of histamine and to correlate these changes with the gastric mucosal temperature. Gastric venous return was almost entirely localized to the splenic vein and blood flow was measured directly, during one minute periods, spaced every four minutes, before and after injection of histamine. Simultaneous recording of gastric temperature was performed. In all dogs significant reduction in blood flow occurred after histamine and was associated with a rise of intragastric temperature. Both blood flow and temperature returned Lo pretreatment levels at the end of experiment.
