Abstract
Haemolaelaps Berlese (=Atricholaelaps Ewing and Ischnolaelaps Fonseca). H. geomys is found only on rodents of the family Geomyidae and throughout the range of the host, type Geomys sp., Georgia. H. morlani was found only on Rattus spp. in Ga. H. megaventralis is recorded from many birds and mammals but its preferred hosts apparently are tree squirrels (Sciurus spp.), flying squirrel (Glaucomys volans) and woodpeckers (Picidae). Its distr. is probably world-wide. H. glasgowi is the most abundant sp. and is recorded from a long list of birds and mammals. The preferred hosts seem to be the marsupials, insectivores and rodents. It is recorded from every region inhabited by the host. The sp. is variable and attention is called to certain variations that exist. Syns. of H. glasgowi are: Laelaps californicus Ewing, L. virginianus Ewing, Hypoaspis cricetophilus Vitzthum, L. stegemani Hef ley, Haemolaelaps scalopi Keegan, Atricholaelaps sigmodoni Strandtmann, A. strandtmanni Fox.Keywords
