Abstract
Young growing rats, offered sucrose (later changed to rice starch), caseinogen and a salt mixture in separate dishes and allowed to make their own choice, consumed on an average only 6.5% of protein. Changing the sucrose to rice starch did not affect the intake of protein. Litter mate controls which were given a ready-mixed diet consisting of the same ingredients and containing about 20% of protein made much greater gains in weight. All rats received equal vitamin supplies, administered separately. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
