Abstract
In their comprehensive review of the differences and similarities between nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (June 13 issue),1 Brooks and Day comment on the renal side effects of NSAIDs. We would like to draw further attention to the interactions between NSAIDs and angiotensin-converting—enzyme (ACE) inhibitors affecting the kidney. Each of these drugs may cause acute hemodynamically mediated renal failure and serious hyperkalemia in patients at risk — i.e., patients with severe heart failure, preexisting renal disease, or hypovolemic states. Keywords
