Calcium Levels in High Grain Beef Cattle Rations

Abstract
Two animal performance trials were conducted to measure influence of level of calcium in an 85% concentrate ration upon animal performance and carcass characteristics. Steers fed a ration containing 0.31% calcium had a higher average daily gain and efficiency of feed conversion as compared to steers fed a basal ration containing 0.20% calcium. Increasing calcium level to 0.41% resulted in further increases in animal performance. Animal performance was not further increased by raising calicum level of the ration to 0.50%.
