Abstract
To the Editor: The report by Tallarigo et al. (Oct. 16 issue)1 that even limited degrees of maternal hyperglycemia, currently considered to be in the normal range, may affect the outcome of pregnancy, is intriguing. However, careful analysis of the data presented raises several concerns.First, the relation between the infant's weight and the mother's two-hour plasma glucose concentration is questionable (r = 0.24; r2 = 0.06; thus, 6 percent of variability may be "explained" by the factor studied). As is pointed out by the authors, there was considerable scatter in the data; examination of Figure 1 in the paper . . .Keywords
