Abstract
The mechanism of action of plague toxin at an enzymatic level was investigated. The toxin inhibits the oxidation of several compounds where diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN) is an intermediate between substrate and oxygen. The inhibition is relieved on addition of an excess of DPN. A discrepancy exists between the in vivo toxicity of the molecule and its action in vitro. A plausible explanation for this discrepancy has been offered. Keywords
