Abstract
The author discusses the contribution of humanities teaching in medical education. Five “qualities of mind” specifically engendered by the humanistic disciplines are isolated, delineated, and illustrated: critical abilities, flexibility of perspective, nondogmatism, discernment of values, and empathy and self-knowledge.Keywords
