Abstract
The effect of various 3d substitutions at Cu sites on the superconductivity of the Bi2CaSr2Cu2O8 system (Bi-2122) has been investigated. The metallic dopants studied are Ni, Fe, Co and Ga. The lattice parameters of the various samples have been determined through X-ray diffractometry. Superconducting transition temperatures (Tc) have been determined through both the resistivity and AC susceptibility measurements. In all these cases Tc decreases with substitution. The results are compared with analogous substitutional studies carried out on other HTSC systems, XPS, XANES and STM studies of some of these samples are also discussed. Keywords
