Abstract
3 elderly women (ages 64, 66 and 70) were presented in whom sarcoidosis of muscle was found on histological examination. During life there was no clinical evidence of sarcoidosis. All the patients showed a clinical picture of progressive muscular wasting and weakness which resembled that of a primary disorder of muscle. Treatment with steroids had no beneficial effect. Autopsy examination of two cases showed that the distribution of the lesions in the voluntary muscles was widespread and that the body organs were also involved. No lesions were found in the heart muscle in these cases. It is suggested that sarcoidosis may develop in muscles affected by a pre-existing disorder of muscle. Keywords
