Abstract
In 6 patients with penetrating brain injuries involving severe frontal lobe injury disinhibition was exhibited as a separate disturbance not associated with other characteristics of the classic frontal lobe syndrome. Patients were aware of the change but could exert only minimal control. Different aspects of personality were affected in different people. The symptoms can appear when only 1 frontal lobe is involved without recognizable anatomical correlation and can coexist with various affective experiences. The condition does not imply intellectual loss in the conceptual sense. Keywords
