Abstract
The severe interactional and communication difficulties that often characterize abusive parents can be best handled by attentive listening by the worker. Related aids to effective intervention are the worker's ability to overcome institutional impediments and to react with nonjudgmental, empathetic, and multifaceted awareness. Keywords
