Abstract
The structure of molten CaCl2 has been investigated by applying the technique of neutron diffraction to isotopically enriched samples. The three partial structure factors and the three pair correlation functions which characterise the structure of molten CaCl2 have been successfully extracted from the experimental data. The results are compared with those obtained from earlier studies of molten BaCl2, SrCl2 and ZnCl2; systematic trends in the behaviour of the pair correlation functions with cation size have been identified. Keywords
