Further Studies on the Mechanism of Antibody-Complement Induced Hemolysis: Specificity of Complement

Abstract
Summary: These studies indicate that the size of the defect or functional “hole” produced in the red cell membrane by the action of antibody and C′ is not influenced by the animal source of the C′. These findings, in addition to those previously described, lend further support to the view that the primary determinant of the nature of the induced membrane injury is in the antigen-antibody interaction, perhaps related to the structural and spatial relationships of the antigenic sites.
