Abstract
A study of several one-dimensional random Ising chains and strips is presented. The free energy is expressed in terms of a probability distribution, the support of which is studied with use of a recurrence relation. The shape of the support is shown to vary from a connected set to a Cantor set depending on the type of randomness. Monte Carlo calculations and analytical approximations are presented. Keywords
