Abstract
Nine students with moderate to profound, long—term, sensorineural hearing loss were trained and tested in conditions of “listen”, “look” and “look and listen” with the transposer hearing aid. Results with the Modified Rhyme Test and PB—50 word lists indicate that some Ss can receive additional benefit (6—10%) from transposition. Since as a group all Ss did not perform uniformly, it appears that the potential benefits of the transposer hearing aid should be assessed individually. Benefit from transposition does not appear to be limited to those people having only low frequency hearing. Some Ss with residual hearing through 4 kHz showed improvement in discrimination. Training is of utmost importance when evaluating this particular aid, as most Ss need time to adjust to listening to the transposed signal. Therefore conventional hearing aid evaluation procedures should be modified when evaluating this aid. Keywords
