The Use of Processed Bovine Bone in Orbital Floor Fractures

Abstract
Treatment of orbital floor fractures is directed towards freeing the orbital contents from the fracture site and restoring the integrity of the bony floor. In the past, various materials have been used to reestablish and support the orbital floor in these cases. Many of these materials are made from synthetic substances and, therefore, become a permanently embedded foreign body. A graft of processed bovine bone, on the other hand, can provide excellent support for the orbital floor; and it does not constitute a permanently embedded foreign body, since it is assimilated by the host.
