Abstract
Buccal absorption tests indicate that loss of drug from the oral cavity cannot be accounted for solely in terms of passive diffusion into the buccal membrane. A model involving protein-binding is proposed, which satisfactorily explains the observed loss. Studies on two different physical simulations of buccal absorption confirm that the proposed model is consistent with the in vivo results. Keywords
