Abstract
The karyotype for the coregonine fish Stenodus leucichthys (determined from squashed blastula preparations) has a diploid number of 74, consisting of 20 metacentric, 14 submetacentric, and 40 acrocentric chromosomes and a total arm number of 108. This karyotype is very similar to that of Coregonus clupeaformis. Stenodus was probably derived from Coregonus by means of Robertsonian translocations during the early stage of coregonine evolution. Keywords
