Abstract
During the past few decades a substantial amount of information on the hypothalamo-pituitary-ovarian axis has been obtained and the endocrinologic mechanism of ovulation is almost established. However, the basic physiology underlying the mechanisms responsible for follicle rupture remains obscure.
