A Distribution-Free Asymptotic Method of Estimating, Testing, and Setting Confidence Limits for Heritability

Abstract
A method is proposed for the estimation of heritability under the situation where the experimenter may not be able to assume a normal distribution for the variate being studied. It requires that the individuals in the parental and the F1 generation can be ranked on the basis of the character under study. The heritability of rank can then be estimated, the estimate tested for significance, and confidence limits placed on the parameter.
