Abstract
Abnormalitles of hepatic function are frequently observed in patients with sickle cell hemogloblnopathy. In both biopsy and autopsy, material intralobular necrosis and scattered confluent lobular infarcts were reported. Aseptic hepatic Infarcts In humans frequently develop secondary abscesses; It is surprising to find no previous cases of an abscess arising within an hepatic lnfarct due to sickle cell disease. A case Is presented of a 19 yr. old Negro female with sickle cell disease who developed an hepatic abscess due to Escherichia coli. The abscess was surgically removed and the patient recovered uneventfully.
