Abstract
In this paper we will discuss the application of XPS and UPS to the study of the initial stages of high-temperature (≳350 °C) electrochemical oxidation of iron and nickel. In the high-temperature experiments, we have electrochemically oxidized iron and nickel electrodes in contact with a solid oxide electrolyte in the UHV system. The great advantages of this technique are that the oxygen activity at the interface may be precisely controlled and the ability to run the reactions in UHV allows the simultaneous observation of the reactions by XPS.Keywords
