In Reply.— Stanton reminds us of the hypothesis that overheating could be a major factor in some unexpected infant deaths.1 Phenothiazine, by impairing normal temperature regulation, could induce overheating and hence the sudden death of the baby. We presently have no data to appreciate the proposed mechanism. In our hospital, among 98 victims of SIDS, the skin temperature was reported to the abnormally hot in seven (7.1%), normal in 43 (43.9%), and abnormally cold in 48 (49%) when discovered.
