Abstract
Burrow systems of P. castanops differed from burrow systems of the other 2 genera of North American geomyids (Geomys and Thomomys) in possessing grass and feces mound plugs, and in lacking a distinct shaft to a deep tunnel system. The single nest-opening was similar to that of Geomys and contrasted with multiple nest-openings of Thomomys. A single functional nest per burrow system was characteristic.
