Abstract
Mitotic activity in the thyroid gland was greater during the first 6 days of the estrus cycle than during the succeeding periods. Following the peak in cell proliferation during the 4th, 5th and 6th days of the cycle, a decrease took place, with a minimum on about the 10th day, after which period the number of mitoses again showed a gradual rise. A statistical analysis of the mitotic counts obtained in the previous and in the new expts. proved that the variations found at different stages of the sexual cycle were significant. The total number of mitoses in the left lobe of the thyroid gland in individual guinea pigs was generally higher than in the right lobe. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
